I also want to fix that "dimple" in the middle of my chest. That dimple is there because I was so large and my surgeon didn't know any other way to cut without totally marring the look of my chest. It has flattened out quite a bit and should go down more when I work out. Anesthesia was included in the cost. Fischer has her own surgical facilities and staff so there are no additional costs. FYI, her surgery price has gone up slightly, but not by very much. | ||

Cam's Detailed Comments: patient #5: These are pictures from my chest surgery done 11 months ago. It was done by Brownstein. I was on low doses of T in all of these photos, 100mg/2wks for 4 years. I didn't bind, but wore the Frog Bra. I am just starting my transition, in all of these pictures I was still living as female, wearing larger shirts so my flat chest wasn't really noticeable (the opposite of what most guys do!). I had chest surgery with 2 possible roads ahead: happy that my body looks more like a guys, and continue living as a lesbian or realize that I want to transition fully and would start on a higher T dose when it would be a appropriate time. I did have drains which gave me considerable pain. I used the surgery binder for 20 days after surgery I was VERY careful not to lift anything remotely heavy or stretch the area for about 5 weeks, and was still pretty careful about it for a month or so later. I'm a high school teacher so I had the summer off and could baby myself a lot. I taped the incision using Mastisol for 5 months (now my incision is flat and the line is very thin) I'm a nonsmoker (My doctor told me that is very good because smokers take about 50% longer to heal and often don't heal as well.) I used Retin-A liquid (Rx from my dermatologist) on the scars after I stopped taping, it is supposed to help the scar to continue to heal and not form as much scar tissue. I used it every other day, for about 6 weeks and then stopped because my skin was getting dry from it. Since the area was numb, I decided that if I could feel it, it would probably be pretty irritated and that's why I stopped. I just started using Mederma last week, for scar fading. I worked out before surgery so that my pec definition would be evident for surgery. I was told by a guy that this helps put the incision line in a place where it is hidden better, but Brownstein said it didn't matter to him. I work out some now, only about 2-3 times a week for an hour. The largest breast size I've ever been was a 38C, but with weight loss and being on the low dose T, I was a small 36B by the time I had surgery. They hung a lot lower than they used to, because I still had the skin from being 38C. I was 35 when I had my surgery. I am going to have a revision with a surgeon in my city. I have "dog ears" on the ends of 3 of the incisions and I wanted them to be fixed. "Dog ears" are on the ends where the skin kind of puffs out some. Mine aren't too noticeable unless I have my arms down on my sides. You can kind of see one on my left side in the pictures. This is common to all surgeons and just really happens some times (I've asked about 3 doctors that!). The revision will cost me $1000, if I went back to San Francisco it would be $850 (Brownstein doesn't charge you for his fee, but you do have to pay fees associated with the surgery center).
Surgery Types/Procedures, Costs and other
great information!
Dr. Fischer uses one of two approaches regarding
the mastectomy.
It is dependent on how much breast tissue you have. If you are a B cup
or smaller, you would be eligible for the periareolar approach. This
means making the incision around the areola and it is virtually a scarless
procedure. The other technique, which is the most popular, is the double
incision. Dr. Fischer makes her incision following the border of the
pectoralis muscle, and when it heals, the incision looks like a shadow under
the pec. She gets beautiful contour in the chest and the nipples are
replaced as grafts. They loose erotic sensation, but maintain protective
sensation. Either surgery takes about 4 hours and you will be in
recovery for about one hour.
You will wear a compression vest for about 2-3 weeks
and have drains in for about 7-10 days, depending on how much drainage you
have after surgery. We like for you to stay in the area until the drains
are removed, if possible. Or you could have the doctor that does your
pre-surgical clearance, or physical, remove the drains. You should
arrange that with him/her prior to surgery, however.
If you decide to schedule surgery with us, I will
send you a list of hotels in the area which charge about $79/night.
We also would like for you to have a doctor in your
area, preferably a surgeon, who can follow you post-operatively, should the
need arise.
The total cost of the surgery is $6800.00 and that
covers everything. 10% is paid on the day that you book your surgery and the
balance is due 3 weeks prior to the surgery date.
Surgery Requirements: You will also need
medical clearance from your family doctor. A history and physical and a
blood test, called a CBC is required. It has no bearing on the surgery
if you take testosterone or not. You will also need a letter from your
therapist regarding the gender issue.
If you have any further questions, please do not
hesitate to call me at (410) 308-4700. We are currently booking about
2-3 months in advance. All scheduling can be done via phone. You
can put the 10% on a credit card or mail it to us prior to scheduling.
Unfortunately, we do not offer any financing.
Looking forward to talking with you.
