| Information :
Surgery by plastic surgeon Dr Megan Hassall, Sydney Australia (based).
Bilateral double mastectomy performed on 6th Dec 2002. The procedure took
approx 2 hrs. Local anesthetic was injected into the wound sites after
closure to assist with pain management, and paracetamol orally digested
every 4hrs once I was awake. I left hospital after 3 days with drains
still attached and had them removed the following day as I accidentally
dislodged the thin tube from it's lower wider end. Follow up visit
was 2 weeks later where 22cc of fluid was drawn off from the
left side. The stitches are internal and nipples left intact for trimming
of both those and areolas in the near future as the previous surgery (8
yrs ago) left them sitting too high to have them removed and replaced by
created ones. I wore a binder for 4 weeks and am still
wearing micropore tape across the scars 7 weeks later (24th Jan
2003). I have a further follow up 5th Feb and hopefully will be able
to lose the tape then. I was able to do anything such as help friends
move house by the 5th week post op and feel no subsequent ill effects
because of heavy lifting.
Outcome : I am exceptionally happy about the results now it's up to me to lose a bit of weight and build and tone my pec area. |
