The T-Male 2007 Presents:

The Injection Conundrum

I have been getting a lot of emails lately asking about injecting issues.

Here are some letters (emails) and my replies.

I am also including a revised suggestion section regarding injecting into your thigh with images!

Perhaps these will help you!

Question 1 :

Hey Nick,

Just recently I gaffed and shot my treatment into a vein or something - my leg gushed something crazy when I removed the needle. I just wondered if you knew what actually happens to the T after it's in the bloodstream, I'm curious like that.

Also, to promote facial hair growth, does shaving them help stimulate those whiskers to grow thicker?

Thanks,
A fellow Okie

My reply:

Hey there,

First off, if you didn't pass our or drop from a heart attack soon after, you are fine.

Here's what happened to you, to many of us, me included.

You can pass right through a vein while going into the leg muscle. When you pulled back the plunger a little to check for blood in the syringe tube before you injected, you obviously didn't see blood. So, you injected your T and then you pulled out the needle and here came the blood from the vein you passed through.

If the T went directly into your blood stream, you would have noticed problems within seconds - the oil is what causes the risk for heart attach when it reaches your heart.

The T is injected into a large muscle, like the leg, butt or arm. It sits there and is slowly absorbed into the blood stream in very tiny increments. It is there that it reaches every area of your body.

The brain is where all the good thing happen from like telling your hair follicles on your face to produce more hair, thicker hair. It also builds up on the scalp as DHT, dyhydrotestosterone, which causes some men to lose their hair.

As for getting your facial hair to grow; you can shave all the time and it won't help. It's all genetics, my friend.

I am at 11 years 5 months on T and my beard is still filling in.

You need to look at your dad or brothers facial hair and if they accept you, ask them when theirs started coming in, how long it took to be able to grow a decent 'stach or beard. And look at their hair for balding. It doesn't always come from the mothers side of the family - not with us.

Question 2:

Hey Nick,

I've been on T for the better part of three months, now - got my first dose Oct. 4th, loving the effects on my voice already. I'll be 18 in a month and two days. Dr. Haas in Tulsa says I'm her youngest FTM patient  to date.

How exactly does it feel when T reaches the heart? A knot consistently forms the day after each of my T injections, but one failed to appear after the last one. I deduced it all went into a vein...

My reply

First, congrats.

You won't feel anything regarding your heart.

Sometimes you get a knot in the muscle and sometimes you don't - if it went into your vein, you would have known it within seconds and you'd be in the hospital with a heart attack.

Stop worrying - the nurses know how to give an IM injection. You're fine. Enjoy this!

Revised Injecting the Thigh Suggestions

Select a section to inject in the outer area of the thigh - choosing an area in the middle between the groin area and knee. If you have any moles, you can use them as a guide for the next time, for 'about' the right area that works best for you. Avoid the inner thigh - it has more veins.

If you have a lot of fat on the top and outer thighs - do not use anything less than a 1" needle (Tip: If you cannot see your veins in bright light or low light, you have a larger fatty layer over the muscles)

Use ice to numb the area. It also causes the blood vessels to contract, which helps keep capillary or small vein bleeding minimal. If you don't have any ice on hand, you can use frozen food (make sure it's sealed before you place it on your skin!) - I used a frozen sealed tilapia fish filet tonight (1-2-07) to numb the area. Worked very well and faster than ice wrapped in a paper towel.

Don't extend your leg all the way out as I advised in my 2002 Injection Thigh tips. Having your leg straight out with your heel on the floor in front of you, it causes the muscles to be contracted. This can lead to soreness almost ever single time!

Bend your leg where your upper thigh is parallel to the floor (even with it) - like you are sitting in a chair - by doing this, you're pulling the muscle fibers apart, which is a more relaxed position for injecting.

Wipe the area after removing the ice, then swab with an alcohol swab, wipe excess alcohol off with a clean paper towel or sheet or toilet paper off the roll.

\/ Pinch up a wad of skin and muscle on the outer thigh

\/ Plunge the needle in slowly with your other hand (dominant for more control - example of a dominant hand is the hand you write with). Be sure to immediately use your free hand to stabilize the syringe (plastic tube that holds the T) once it is in so it does not move throughout the entire process.

(simulated procedure - needle is not attached - I had already injected an hour before)

\/ Keep your free hand in the same position (as above) holding the syringe in place as rigid as possible so the syringe and needle do not move at all.  Take your other hand (dominant hand) and place onto syringe to begin injecting, with two fingers under the flared edge and your thumb on the plunger head. Slowly inject solution into your thigh muscle. If you want to check for blood again during the process, go ahead but do NOT move the syringe and needle!

(simulated procedure - needle is not attached - I had already injected an hour before)
